The Takoma Park Food Project is a simple project dedicated to helping our neighbors who are suffering from food insecurity. Neighbors donate one bag of food every two months, and a neighborhood coordinator picks up the bags and delivers them to the Takoma Park Food Pantry, run by Educare Social Services. Educare serves food-insecure residents across Takoma Park and Langley Park, and there is a great need — anyone who shows up can receive food, with no paperwork or income requirements. Our collections help keep the pantry stocked and ensure it can continue serving the community.

Our Impact
All of our food goes to Educare Social Services, which runs the Takoma Park Food Pantry. They serve Takoma Park and Langley Park’s food-insecure residents. Although Educare receives grants from the city and county, these grants mean that there are certain requirements people must meet before they are allowed to receive food. Our food comes with no restrictions, so anyone who shows up can walk away with something to eat. No matter whether they have proof of income or even a stable address, they can get support for themselves and their families! We raise nearly 1000 lbs of food every collection cycle.
Most Needed Items
We are always looking for peanut butter, cooking oil, rice, dried beans, pasta, cereal, canned meat and fish. Toiletries and diapers are gladly accepted. Canned and processed food (for example canned soup) is not a good choice. We do not accept glass containers, or expired items.
Get Involved
We are always looking for more coordinators to lead collect for a neighborhood! The commitment level is low: all we ask is 1-2 hours of your time every other month. Set up a “neighborhood” in your apartment building, on your block, in your church, at work, or anywhere else you talk to other people regularly. It’s easy, it gives you a chance to connect with your neighbors, and, together with others, it can make a huge difference for the people around us!
