The Hutto Neighborhood Food Project (NFP) is a simple, sustainable way for neighbors to fight hunger right where they live. Following the national Neighborhood Food Project model, our program invites Hutto residents to set out a green bag of groceries outside their front door every two months – no meetings, no fundraising, no big commitment required. Neighborhood Coordinators pick up the filled bags on Collection Day (the 2nd Saturday of even months) and delivers them to the drop-off location, where the food becomes part of the HRC distributions to families across Hutto and Williamson County. It’s neighbors helping neighbors in the truest sense: turning one small, recurring habit into a steady, reliable source of food for our community. The Hutto Neighborhood Food Project makes generosity easy!
How It Works
Every two months, Neighborhood Coordinators collect filled green bags from the neighbors they’ve signed up as Food Donors, leaving a fresh empty bag behind in exchange. It’s a simple swap — no scheduling calls, no drop-off runs required of the donor. Coordinators then bring the full bags to a central collection point, where volunteers sort and organize all of the donated items. From there, the donations move straight into Hutto Resource Center’s regular distributions, reaching families across Hutto and Williamson County within days. Because donations come in on a steady, predictable two-month cycle rather than a one-time drive, HRC’s shelves stay consistently stocked year-round — and neighbors get an easy, low-commitment way to show up for each other, again and again.

Community Impact
Every bag donated through the Hutto Neighborhood Food Project stays right here in Hutto. That means the impact is immediate and local: the cereal, canned beans, and pantry staples a neighbor sets out on their porch today can be on a Hutto family’s table within the same week. As HRC serves growing numbers of families across Hutto and Williamson County, this steady, predictable stream of donations helps ensure our shelves stay stocked between larger food drives and grant-funded purchases – not just occasionally, but all year long.
